There are many things that happen in class that are unscheduled, unprepared, unplanned. Its about kids being kids and doing little things all on their own that make my heart sing. In class, at least once a day, I have a moment where I feel pure joy and delight in these little ones. Reading. I've mentioned before that I love kids books and I love it when the kids do too. There is just something so special when you see everyone cuddled up with a book. When make believe turns real. This little boy loved this toy winch. Well, he was over the moon when a big truck arrived at the neighbours house delivering shingles. We all stopped what we were doing and enjoyed the show then pretended we were doing the same with blocks. Pretending to be me. This little girl loves to pretend she is Miss Dawn. She does our routine and sings the songs. Sometimes someone will even "pretend" to be one of the kids. Cuteness!!!! Dancing. Sometimes I will leave music on while we work or play and some children will just start dancing. Pure joy. Working together. I love it when everyone works together and there is a sense of teamwork. Friends. It is so nice to see when everyone gets along and of course, preschool is about learning just that. There are days when there are disagreements and hurt feelings but for the most part this group gets along very well. At snack, I often hear, "I can open that for you." "Would you like me to get you a paper towel." When it is time to go home, again I hear, "I can zip that for you." "You forgot your hat."

During the past few weeks we have painted with, played with, made, counted, examined, picked and eaten apples! It has been fun and tasty! What a great theme! We cut open an apple to see what was inside. We counted the seeds and talked about how these would be used to grow more apple trees. We then talked about what happens to a cut apple when it is exposed to the air (turns brown). We then dipped apple slices in different liquids to see which one would help stop it from turning brown. Using some blankets, I made an apple tree. I invited each child to pick up apples using the number cards and then put them in the basket. Not only were we working with numbers and colors but it was a great exercise in following direction too. Of course we had to taste different apples! Red, yellow, green and crab apples! And apple core crafts! Apple Crafts...To finish off our apple theme, we enjoyed some snacks made from apples. Apple strudel, apple muffins, apple pie, apple sauce, apple juice and apple cider. |
