While we spent time learning about dinosaurs; their size, what they ate, how they protected themselves, I also tried to incorporate shapes into this theme. Here are a few of the things we did…. ![]() I presented a dinosaur to the class that had a shape drawn on its back. We then hunted for items in our room that were the same shape. We walked like dinosaurs and roared a "mighty" roar when we found it. Here we discovered that the microwave was shaped like a rectangle. ![]() We added triangles to this dinosaur. We also made a "shapeosaurus", a dinosaur made just from shapes. Together we first created a large dinosaur. Each child got a turn picking a shape and adding it to the dinosaur. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture. ![]() We learned that dinosaurs came from eggs. I inserted qtips into shape foam pieces to decorate the egg. ![]() On our white boards I drew triangles as trees everyone was then encouraged to try and decorate the tree with shapes. Another game we played (again, I forgot to take a picture!) was similar to musical chairs. I had pictures of dinosaurs with shapes on their backs laid out over the floor. I played music and we stomped around like dinosaurs. When I stopped the music, I would shout out the name of a shape, everyone was encouraged to find a dinosaur with that shape.
